Dalius and Egle have been making various microbial media at the Biolab & using our laminar hood (recently heroically transported upstairs to the Biolab) for the first time:

Nutrient agar + tryptone media was made using old dry media mix (containing yeast extract and salts) from soviet times, and adding tryptone, as source of peptides and carbon. Egle is planning to start by testing the bacterial flora in different parts of Technarium!

We also had some Endo agar mix (also quite old), which we used to make tiny pink plates for testing food & water for pathogenic bacteria! We are planning to use some of them in a project with the Lithuanian Sceptics Association.

We also made some PDA (Potatoe Dextrose Agar) plates, which Dalius will use to revive his Blakeslea trispora culture, later to be used to extract carotene. He is using a really effective (and shockingly underused) method of propagation via small sterile paper pieces on an agar plate.
